Markela Collins, LMSW is a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Master Social Worker and Mental Health First Responder. Her passion for mental health stems from a strong academic and professional background. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications Media & Production from California State University, Dominguez Hills, where she was an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., serving as Journalist and Social Action Co-chair. Her commitment to social justice extended to her work as part of the community and social action street team at 102.3 FM KJLH.
She furthered her education at the University of Texas at Arlington, obtaining a Master’s in Social Work specializing in Mental Health & Substance Misuse, along with an Administrative Leadership certificate. Over the past six years, she has provided comprehensive mental health services including psychoeducation, skill-building, crisis intervention, case management, and in-home services as a Qualified Mental Health Professional. Her expertise lies in working with traumatized children and adolescents facing emotional and behavioral challenges.
She is proficient in various therapeutic modalities such as ACT, CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. Currently, she serves as Vice President and board member of TruePer, Inc., a non-profit organization combating the school-to-prison pipeline through therapeutic creative arts, mentoring, and coaching. Markela’s work is dedicated to empowering individuals to lead fulfilling lives through mental health and recovery.
