Physician Assistant – Psychiatry (PA)

Position Summary:

Under the leadership of the Medical Director and/or Assistant Director, the Physician Assistant (PA) provides high-quality psychiatric care to patients with acute and chronic mental health conditions. Clinical settings may include outpatient and/or inpatient facilities.

Core responsibilities include psychiatric evaluations, follow-up assessments, medication management, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, coordinating care with the clinical team, educating patients and families, and documenting all encounters in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

This position requires strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with supervising psychiatrists and the broader care team.

Position Responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and follow-up assessments
Perform physical exams and obtain medical and psychosocial histories
Interpret clinical data to establish accurate diagnoses and treatment plans
Perform admission histories and psychiatric assessments for new patients
Conduct daily rounds, manage referrals, and interpret diagnostic studies
Prescribe and manage pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments
Manage ongoing patient care in collaboration with the supervising psychiatrist
Develop, evaluate, and adjust individualized treatment plans
Order, review, and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests
Provide education to patients and families about diagnoses, medications, and treatment plans
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR
Collaborate with the Medical Director, Clinical Director, and therapy team on patient care
Instructs and educates patient and patient’s family and significant others regarding medications, patient’s condition, and treatment instructions post discharge and for the home environment;
Individual must become proficient in exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services;
Collaborates with the Medical Director, Clinical Director, and staff therapists to discuss service plans and progress;
Provide counseling or brief therapeutic support as needed
Participate in treatment team meetings and care plan development
Prepare and submit required assessments, progress notes, and clinical reports
Perform additional duties as assigned
