Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

Position Overview

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) plays a key role in delivering exceptional mental health care within Impireum Wellness. Working under the supervision of the Medical Director and/or Assistant Director, the PMHNP provides psychiatric evaluations, ongoing management, therapeutic support, and patient education across outpatient and/or inpatient settings.

 

This role requires strong clinical judgment, excellent communication, and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with psychiatrists and the interdisciplinary treatment team.

Experience:

  • Advanced psychiatric nursing: 2-3 years (Preferred)
  • Physician Assistant: 2-3 years (Preferred)
  • Substance use disorder: 2-3 years (Preferred)

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and follow-up assessments
  • Obtain medical, psychiatric, and psychosocial histories
  • Perform physical examinations as needed
  • Diagnose and develop individualized treatment plans
  • Initiate, adjust, and manage medications
  • Order and interpret labs, diagnostic imaging, and other tests
  • Provide crisis support and therapeutic interventions when needed
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, and treatment
  • Collaborate with Medical Director, Clinical Director, and therapy team
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the EMR
  • Prepare assessments, progress notes, reports, and required documentation
  • Support continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient services
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Preferred Experience (2–3 Years)

  • Psychiatric nursing or PMHNP clinical experience
  • Substance use disorder treatment
  • Working with veterans diagnosed with PTSD
  • Supporting survivors of sexual assault or abuse

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong critical thinking and independent clinical decision-making
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage complex patient cases with autonomy
  • Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems
  • Training and/or experience in Evidence-Based Psychotherapies (EBP), including:
    Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
    Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)
    Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Required Credentials:

  • Graduation from an accredited PMHNP program
  • ANCC PMHNP certification
  • Unrestricted APRN license in Texas
  • Unrestricted DEA registration
  • Texas Controlled Substance Registration (CSR)
  • Active registration with the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP)
  • Eligibility to participate in federal healthcare programs (no exclusions)

Position Responsibilities:

  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotations (evenings/weekends)
  • Flexibility across multiple clinical settings
  • Ability to work independently with strong clinical judgment
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
